Cognitive Training Programs

1. CogSMART

CogSMART, which stands for Cognitive Symptom Management and Rehabilitation Therapy, is an evidenced-based educational program of compensatory cognitive training to help people improve their skills in prospective memory (remembering to do things), attention, learning/memory, and executive functioning (problem-solving, planning, organization, and cognitive flexibility). CogSMART is delivered in 12 one-hour sessions that will teach you strategies to improve your cognition and functioning in multiple areas. This program is available at www.cogsmart.com and can be completed by the individual on their own, or if requested we would be happy to help in providing guidance.

2. CogMed Working Memory Training (CogMed)

CogMed is a computerized brain-training software that provides evidence-based exercises for helping children, adolescents, and adults improve their attention by training their working memory. The skill of working memory is essentially holding something in mind while doing something else without becoming distracted between the two, and is involved in many real-world tasks. This program is available through Hampton Roads Neuropsychology, as we are a Qualified CogMed Practice. Dr. Sautter has been vetted and trained by CogMed.

 

3. Brain HQ

Brain HQ is an evidenced-based cognitive training program that consists of 29 online exercises that exercise attention, brain speed, memory, people skills, navigation, and intelligence. The first levels of select exercises in Brain HQ are free; however, to access the full range of Brain HQ's exercises and benefits, there is a monthly or annual subscription charge. You can access Brain HQ on almost any computer or mobile device. This program is available at www.brainhq.com and can be completed by the individual on their own, or if requested we would be happy to help in providing guidance.

 

4. CogniFit

CogniFit is an evidenced based mobile- and web-based cognitive training app. It uses short, simple-to-learn games aimed at training cognitive functions, such as perception, memory, hand–eye coordination, etc. By playing different mental games with CogniFit, you can discover your cognitive state. CogniFit measures the performance of brain functions and automatically creates a personalized training program. The selected tasks and their level of difficulty are dynamically combined based on the specific needs of the user. This program is available at www.cognifit.com and can be completed by the individual on their own for a monthly charge.

 

5. Lumosity

Lumosity is an online brain-training program with more than 50 games designed by neuroscientists to improve cognitive skills by practicing them over and over again with games. Participating in this training online is analogous to going to a mental gym and increasing attention/concentration and memory function. This program is available at www.lumosity.com and can be completed by the individual on their own for a monthly or annual charge.

 

6.  The Healthy Brain Kit, by Drs. Weil and Small

The Healthy Brain Kit is a home-based program focusing on improving brain fitness and maintaining neurocognitive health. This evidenced-based instructional and educational program offers tools and recommendations for maintaining a healthy brain fitness lifestyle. The kit includes 2 CD’s, a 50-page workbook, and 35 brain-training flash cards. This kit can be purchased online.  

 

 

Quality Sleep Hygiene Training

1. Sleepio

Sleepio is an evidence-based cognitive-behavioral re-framing sleep hygiene program that helps individuals learn how to sleep better. Sleepio consists of a 8-week program which provides techniques and practices to help improve poor sleep based on the individual’s sleep concerns. This program can be completed via smartphone, tablet, or computer and can be purchased at www.sleepio.com

 

2. Sleep Soundly Every Night by Robert S. Rosenberg

Sleep Soundly Every Night focuses on helping individuals identify their sleep problems and provides techniques to help improve sleep quality. This book is written by a board-certified sleep physician and can be purchased online.
